Skyline calls "Google" and "Amazon" to withdraw from project Nimbus, which deepens israel's violations against Palestinians
STOCKHOLM - Skyline International calls on Google and Amazon to stop cooperation with the Israeli army and refrain from providing Israel with cloud technology that contributes to the pursuit of Palestinians 'activities and targets them.
On Thursday, Skyline express its deep concern at the contract signed between Google and Amazon and the Israeli army known as the Nimbus project, which provides electronic cloud services to the Israeli army and government. This enables the army to monitor and illegally collect data of Palestinians, target and displace them upon this data.
In this regard, Skyline highlights a letter published by the British Guardian newspaper, entitled "We are Google and Amazon Workers. We condemn project Nimbus ," which included the signing of more than 500 employees from the two companies on an internal letter, in which they expressed their rejection of the cooperation of the two companies. Their companies are with the Israeli army, stressing that Israel uses the cloud technology provided by their companies to commit “war crimes” against the Palestinians.
In their letter, workers who were anonymous in fear or retaliation, said that they "did not support their employers’ decision to build and provide cloud-based regional data centers and services to Israel that harm Palestinians".
Workers who rejects Amazon and Google's cooperation with Israel that the products they build are used to deny Palestinians their basic rights, force Palestinians out of their homes and attack Palestinians in the Gaza Strip – actions that have prompted war crime investigations by the international criminal court.
Moreover, they ask Google and Amazon to pull out of Project Nimbus and cut all ties with the Israeli military. Furthermore, they asserted that they are morally obligated to speak out against violations of these core values.
This contract was signed the same week that the Israeli military attacked Palestinians in the Gaza Strip – killing nearly 250 people, including more than 60 children. They further said that technology our companies have contracted to build will make the systematic discrimination and displacement carried out by the Israeli military and government even crueler and deadlier for Palestinians.
Project Nimbus is a $1.2bn contract to provide cloud services for the Israeli military and government. This technology allows for further surveillance of and unlawful data collection on Palestinians, and facilitates expansion of Israel’s illegal settlements on Palestinian land.
Skyline stresses that Google and Amazon's selling dangerous technology to the Israeli military and government makes them a partner in violations committed against Palestinians, especially since the victims of these violations are mostly civilians as children and women. This constitutes a flagrant violation of the international law's rules, especially protection rules contained in many international conventions such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Fourth Geneva Convention and other international covenants.
In conclusion, Skyline calls “Google” and “Amazon” companies to immediately terminate their contract with the Israeli army and invest modern technologies in protecting individuals' rights instead of targeting them.
